OpenAI’s Agents API now supports scheduled automations: applications can create periodic cron schedules or one-time runs to start a new agent session or continue an existing one. The documentation also describes an optional automations tool that lets an agent schedule follow-up work, plus invocation records with a status and session ID.
Teams can move recurring agent work—such as routine checks, reviews and data operations—into a managed schedule while keeping their own handling for busy sessions, failures and required actions. A successful schedule delivery is not itself proof that the agent task completed.

The UK Cabinet Office announced an AI Biosecurity Lab as part of a National AI Biosecurity Initiative. The government says it will provide £100 million in funding, alongside up to £200 million in commitments from OpenAI and Anthropic. Its initial work is intended to support earlier biological-threat detection and faster development and testing of vaccines, treatments and other countermeasures.
This is an announced public capability and governance investment, not a deployed product. It pairs frontier-model access with biological-science and public-sector partners, signalling that AI risk work is being organised around operational resilience as well as model evaluation.
