AI21 Labs released LIFT-Bench, a 784-task instruction-following benchmark across ten splits, alongside LIFT-Train, a 34,258-task generated training set and open pipeline. Its method attaches constraints to the specific document section they govern, then evaluates both programmatically verifiable rules and content-oriented judged constraints. AI21 reports that section-scoped judging improved macro-F1 by 11–19 points in its study.
Teams tuning instruction-following models can use the release to test whether rewards capture task completion as well as formatting compliance. This is preprint and open-artifact evidence—not an independently replicated result or a deployed product—so it should be validated on representative internal work before changing a production training or evaluation stack.
